Workplace wellbeing support for development trusts in Scotland

DTAS helps member organisations in Scotland build healthier, more sustainable workplace cultures — addressing burnout, unclear roles, and team pressure before problems escalate. Included as part of DTAS membership.

About this service

What is the DTAS workplace wellbeing service?

Running a development trust is demanding work. Staff and board members often carry a lot — and if the pressure isn’t acknowledged early, it can build into something harder to manage. The DTAS workplace wellbeing service helps member organisations get ahead of that.

This is an organisational service, not a clinical one. We work with teams and boards to look at culture, workload, boundaries, and ways of working — and to put practical steps in place before problems escalate. It’s preventative and supportive, not a response to crisis.

This service sits alongside our core member support service, which provides broader organisational advisory support, and our crisis support service for situations that have already reached a critical point.

Is this right for you?

Signs this service might be right for your organisation

This service is for development trusts dealing with staff and organisational wellbeing pressures — whether things have already become difficult, or you want to get ahead of potential problems.

Burnout and exhaustion

Your team is stretched, energy is low, and people are showing signs of burnout — but you’re not sure how to respond as an organisation.

Culture concerns

Something feels off about how your organisation operates internally, but it’s difficult to pinpoint or address without outside support.

Unclear roles and boundaries

Staff are unclear about what’s expected of them, or boundaries between roles — or between staff and board — have become blurred.

Proactive investment in your team

Things are going reasonably well, but you want to prioritise your team’s wellbeing before pressure builds — not after.

How it works

What workplace wellbeing support includes

Support is tailored to what your organisation needs. It’s delivered online-first and can include:

Initial assessment

Understanding the pressures your organisation is facing and identifying the most helpful starting point for support.

Facilitated workshops and group sessions

Working directly with your staff team or board to open up honest conversations about culture, workload, and ways of working.

Webinars and training

Focused sessions on specific wellbeing topics relevant to your organisation and the community development sector.

Tools and resources

Practical tools to help you build and maintain a healthier working culture over the long term.

Reflection opportunities

Structured space for your team and board to reflect on workload, roles, boundaries, and organisational culture.

This service focuses on the organisation as a whole — not individual staff members. If someone in your team needs one-to-one mental health support, we can help you signpost them to the right place.

Scope of service

What the workplace wellbeing service doesn’t cover

This service is organisational and preventative. It doesn’t replace professional or clinical services. Specifically, it doesn’t include:

  • Not included: Counselling, therapy or one-to-one mental health support for individual staff members

  • Not included: Managing individual staff issues, grievances or disciplinary processes

  • Not included: Replacing HR, occupational health or clinical services — though we can signpost you to these

Common questions

Workplace wellbeing FAQs

Is this service only for organisations already in difficulty?

No — this service is explicitly preventative. Many organisations access it when things are going reasonably well but they want to invest in their team before pressure builds. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit.

Can this service help if we have a specific staff conflict or HR issue?

This service doesn’t cover individual HR issues, grievances or disciplinary matters. However, we can help you think through organisational culture issues that may be contributing to staff difficulties, and we can signpost you to appropriate HR support.

Does the service work with boards as well as staff teams?

Yes. Workplace wellbeing support can be delivered with staff teams, boards, or both — depending on where the pressure is and what your organisation needs. Board burnout and unclear staff-board boundaries are both common issues we can help with.

What if someone in our team needs individual mental health support?

This service doesn’t provide one-to-one clinical or therapeutic support. If someone in your team needs that kind of help, we can signpost them to the right place. Our focus is on the organisation as a whole — culture, workload, and ways of working.
